New Walls to Existing Building at Blockley

This project record shows new external walls being formed against an existing stone building in Blockley, a Cotswold village in Gloucestershire near Moreton-in-Marsh. The photographs were taken during construction in November 2017, before the work was complete.

New masonry beside the existing building

The progress photographs document the junction between the new work and the older building. Concrete blockwork is visible at the unfinished end of the wall, while the main elevation is faced in natural stone to sit alongside the existing stonework. A new opening has also been formed with a substantial stone sill below it.

Working carefully around the existing structure

The roof edge and adjoining masonry remained in place while the wall work progressed. Temporary adjustable steel props can be seen supporting the structure beside the opening, allowing the masonry around it to be built and made secure in a controlled sequence. The close site conditions between the building and the boundary wall also limited the working space available.

A clear construction-stage record

These images are an honest record of the structural masonry stage rather than photographs of the finished project. They show how the new wall, opening and stone facing were brought together at an existing Cotswold property before the remaining finishes were added.
