Working on a listed building is not the same as a standard renovation. Materials must match the original, workmanship must meet conservation requirements, and regulatory consent is part of the process. Another example of our heritage work is the Chadbury Mill in Evesham, where we replaced the roof and rafters, added insulation, replastered, and installed new dormer windows in a historic mill building.
Approved Drawings & Listed Building Consent
Every listed building project starts with the correct consents. Listed building consent is required for any works that affect the special interest of the building — including many internal alterations as well as external changes. Your architect or planning consultant should manage the application and consent process. Once the relevant permissions and approved drawings are in place, P&R Mueller carries out the building work and can work alongside your appointed consultant and conservation officers throughout construction.
Traditional Materials & Craftsmanship
Conservation officers require that repairs to listed buildings use materials that are appropriate to the original construction — and do not damage the historic fabric. For stonework and brickwork this typically means lime mortar rather than cement. For timber frames it means like-for-like repair or replacement using matching timber species and profiles. For renders and plasters, traditional lime-based products are required.
